Why Lawyers Join

The bench is built for senior lawyers who love the work and want the rest of law firm life to get out of the way.

Real work, brought to you.Ahmed brings in the matters. You are never asked to market yourself, chase originations or sit through pitch meetings to earn your next deal.

Choose what you take on.Matters are offered, not assigned. Say yes to work that fits your practice and your calendar, and pass on what does not.

Senior work with senior people. No pyramid and no associates to supervise. You work with experienced lawyers on the parts of a deal that need judgment, and a senior specialist joins when a matter calls for one.

Never alone on a hard deal.Ahmed stays involved in every complex or high-stakes matter. You have a partner on the call, someone to think through a problem with and someone who has your back with the client.

The business side is handled.Client intake, conflict checks, engagement letters and billing run through the firm, so your time goes to the work itself.

Clients worth working for.Venture-backed technology companies, middle-market buyers and sellers, emerging VC funds and a short list of startups. The client list is kept short on purpose, so every matter gets real attention.

Work from anywhere.Bench lawyers practice remotely, across the country. Matters are staffed by experience and bar admission, not by office.

Room to build. If you want to grow a practice of your own over time, the firm is open to it and Ahmed will help you build it.

Where Our Lawyers Trained

Wilson Sonsini, Goodwin Procter, Thompson Hine, McGuireWoods and other leading firms.

Some also bring time in-house, at a fund or on the business side. That mix is what clients come to us for.

Who We Are Looking For

Experienced transactional lawyers who want to do excellent work and have a life outside it.

Big Law alumni

You have done the deals and trained the associates. Now you want the work without the machine around it.

Former in-house counsel

You know what a general counsel needs from outside counsel because you have been one.

Boutique and solo lawyers

You want more sophisticated matters and senior colleagues, without giving up your independence.

Lawyers stepping back

You want fewer, better matters while you raise a family, teach, build something else or ease toward retirement.

We are especially interested in lawyers who practice [practice areas we are adding to the bench].

How It Works

  1. Send a short noteYour LinkedIn or CV, your practice focus, your bar admissions and how much time you want to commit.
  2. Talk with AhmedA confidential conversation about your practice, the kind of matters you want and how the bench works.
  3. Your first matterWhen a matter fits your experience, Ahmed brings you in. Many lawyers start with one matter and build from there.

Questions

Is this a full-time job?

No. Bench lawyers work with the firm matter by matter, alongside their own practice or other commitments. You decide how much you take on.

Do I need to bring clients?

No. Ahmed brings in the work. If you do have clients of your own and want to bring them, we are happy to talk about it.

Where do I need to be?

Anywhere. Matters are handled remotely. Which matters you can take on depends on your bar admissions and the law involved.

How much experience do I need?

The bench is senior by design. Every lawyer on it is a senior, Big Law trained lawyer.

How are terms set?

We talk through terms in the first conversation, once we both have a sense of fit.
